He was born on 18th November 1941 in Mežica. He studied painting under professors France Mihelič, Maksim Sedej and Gabriel Stupica at the University of Ljubljana Academy of Fine Arts and Design (ALUO) between 1961 and 1966. He graduated from ALUO in 1966.
From 1978 to his retirement in 2011 he was lecturing at the ALUO, and was appointed professor in painting in 1990.
He received the Grand Prešeren Award for his life work in 2001. His works are held in important Slovenian and foreign museums and galleries, the most important are the collections of the Moderna gallery in Ljubljana, Museum of Contemporary Art in Belgrade, Art Gallery in Banja Luka and the Neue Gallery in Graz.
