He was born on the 11th April 1951 in Ljubljana. After graduating from the highschool for education in Ljubljana, he studied sculpture at the University of Ljubljana Academy of Fine Arts and Design (ALUO) under professors Zdenko Kalin and Drago Tršar. He graduated in 1974 and completed his postgraduate studies in sculpture under professor Drago Tršar two years later.
As a fellow at the Barnett Newman Foundation, he studied at the New York Studio School in the United States under professors William Tucker and Sidney Geist (1979-1980).
After his return, he initially worked as a freelance artist, and since 1984 he has taught at the ALUO in Ljubljana, where he has been appointed for associate professor of sculpture in 1990 and professor of sculpture in 2000.
